#TidalTaughtMe: Mila J- The Saints Go Marching On
"I call you by your name now,
I used to call you baby
But I'm just calling right now, 'cause I saw somethin'
And it reminded me of you"
How the hell did I miss the "March 2018" EP from Mila J, and more importantly this song? I'm a little salty that I found this song a year after its release, but I believe music finds you when it's supposed to. Somehow, something I was listening to allowed this song to make its way on to one of my Tidal Mixes. How many of us have that person that stirs those feelings up inside us, and when we see something specific makes us want to call them immediately? How many of us have been there? How many of us are still there? That shit will also get you caught up so be careful! My motto is music is what feelings sound like, and I felt/feel this song on a visceral level. The lyrics along with the vocal arrangement make it even more impactful. This song is in constant rotation with me.
I've known about Mila J since the 90s and she's always had a very relatable, round the way girl vibe. I've never related to one of her songs more. #TidalTaughtMe about this song, and reminded me of the dopeness that is Mila J. If you aren't familiar, I'd recommend taking some quarantine time getting lost in the Mila J rabbit hole. She has a habit of constantly reinventing herself, so I suggest searching under Japollonia as well. What’s your favorite Mila J song/project?
