Long Gone tells the story of a one-sided relationship, and gives us an exact measure of her breaking point. While Joella delivers the message of being over this relationship; both men and women can relate to a partner that doesn’t reciprocate, or as the kids say “match your energy”. If ever you find yourself asking a mate; “Have I ever even met you?”, and you immediately respond with; “No, not in reality”; it might just be time for you to be Long Gone.

Lifetime Original Movie- 'Salt-N-Pepa'
It’s 2021, and Lifetime is back with their infamous biopics. Over the last few years, it has become somewhat of a pastime to pick these movies apart as a family on Black Twitter. They’re either really good or horribly bad, with no grey area in between. I went into this movie truly hopeful that it would be good since both Salt & Pepa were actively involved in its making. For nostalgia’s sake, I enjoyed the movie. I guess I wasn’t disappointed because I came in with reasonable expectations.
'Black-ish' "Please, Baby, Please" Unaired Episode
Kenya Barris is brilliant. Watching this shelved episode of 'Black-ish' that premiered on Hulu of all places after ABC refused to air it, and not on Netflix where 'Black AF' made its debut was a little odd. After watching the episode, I fully understand why ABC shelved it, and I believe Kenya is winning because he was ahead of his time. ABC isn't ready, and will never be ready for this level of truth, maybe this is why Kenya took his talents to Netflix in the first place. This episode was shot in November of 2017 and scheduled to air in February of 2018. ABC decided the episode was "too political for the network" and opted to air a repeat instead. I believe this episode is more impactful today than it would have been had it originally aired in February of 2018, because of where we are amid a pandemic equipped with further examples of police brutality. None of which 45 accepts responsibility for.
Lady Luck: She is Anything But
Born into Hip Hop Royalty, musical talent undeniably runs through Lady Luck’s veins. Lady Luck, AKA, Shanell Jones’ great-aunt is Sylvia Robinson, singer, producer, and founder of Sugarhill Records. Luck’s career took off after being signed by Kevin Liles to Def Jam Records at the age of 16. She’s worked with many artists including; Pharoahe Monch, Redman, Method Man, Busta Rhymes, and EPMD. After her deal with Def Jam fell through, and her “Luck” had seemingly run out, she had to find another way to make an impact on the industry, and she most certainly did.
It's Been Canceled, Word to Olivia Pope
As a blogger, constantly trying to engage and grow my following, I sometimes struggle with posting about some hot topics because oftentimes I truly don't give a shit. We are currently living through a worldwide pandemic, Black people continue to be hunted and killed by police officers and vigilantes alike, and I have been completely fucked up since learning about JasFly's death last week. Throughout all of this, people seem to be up in arms about someone named B. Simone.
JasFly (Jasmine Waters)
2020, Seriously?! This shit hurts. She was 39. She would have turned 40 on October 21st, 2 days before my birthday. She should be here. Today, we got the news that JasFly passed away and I screamed when the post popped up on my IG feed. Jas' writing always resonated with me because she was real. Jas cursed. She had a slick mouth, which was evident in her writing. Jas was outspoken, she held her own, often in a room full of men. She had a way as a storyteller, where she always related to the subject of her writing personally.
Stop Killing Us
New Music Monday: JoJo- Good to Know
Right now my favorite song is 'Gold' as I'm a sucker for a good harmony. I can see myself lighting a few candles while enjoying a glass of wine to this sensual mid-tempo track. I can also imagine riding through the city with all the windows and sunroof open on a balmy summer evening (since that's about ALL we can do right now). Again, JoJo is grown now, so her whisper-singing about grown things is a new experience, and she does it well. 'Small Things' hit me HARD! A break-up will do that to you. Another thing that JoJo does well is sing emotions.
