Malcolm & Marie

It was beautiful.

It was toxic.

It was smart.

Aside from the incessant arguing, and the goal to cut the other deeper than the other.

The language was intelligent, insolent, but intelligent.

It was different.

There was a message.

The music, God, the music; ingenious!

I have so much appreciation for this film as an adult.

I wonder what Gen Z thinks of this film now, and what they’ll think later after living a little and having their own experiences in dating.

There was so much going on in the dialogue of the film that I almost wonder if the absence of color was done not for artistic reasons, but to make sure there was no distraction from what was taking place. The scenery/set served more as a background than a part of the story. I do think the music served as a supporting character in driving the direction of the film.

I’ve loved John David Washington since I first saw him in Ballers.

I now love Zendaya as I am not familiar with her work. Euphoria was too dark for me to get into. She sold me on Marie, and she was even funny.

It showed the contradiction of their contempt for one another, along with their codependency.
I loved it.

Thank you, Sam Levinson!
